Rose Hill Cemetery
Arkadelphia, Clark County
Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999, Rose Hill Cemetery - owned and maintained by the City of Arkadelphia - features funerary symbolism of the mid 19th century on hundreds of gravestones.
One of the earliest gravestone carvers in Little Rock was James Tunnah, who carved mostly in marble. Tunnah arrived at New Orleans in 1848 from his birthplace in Dumfernline, Scotland, and was in Little Rock by about 1851.
Tunnah's work is extant in Rose Hill. Typical examples of Tunnah's carving feature sunken relief, and he was known for his exceptionally detailed carving.
